El objetivo es explorar a través de los signos del paisaje lingüístico los cambios socio-demográficos desde un enfoque diacrónico y contrastivo. The chapter discusses the disputes over procedure in the private meetings of the Union Societies and how they can be interpreted politically. Haapala points out that some of the rules were adopted from the House of Commons, although the Unions did not follow the parliamentary model in all respects. As well as noting that the politics of debate in the Unions was largely conducted through rule interpretation and challenging the decisions of the president, the chapter also draws attention to the role of the standing committees, the vast powers of Union presidents and the rhetorical strategies the members used in the debates. This paper looks at how a group of small, incumbent private telephone companies complied with the international convergence of market structures. The existing research has mainly focused on large national incumbents, assuming a transition to multinational enterprise. This development process is often associated with privatisation policies and various institutional factors. The article tests these assumptions using a case study of the network of Finnish local telephone companies.
